Weigh and measure yourself first thing in the morning, after you’ve been to the toilet but before you eat or drink anything. It is important to both weigh and measure. Many people lose centimetres before they lose weight.

Important: With our ShapeWorks products, you will be re-shaping your body so measuring will be more important than weighing. Fat doesn’t weigh very much but takes up more room than muscle. Muscle weighs more and takes up less room. Our high protein ShapeWorks programme is designed to build lean muscle mass while burning fat, and that’s why you see it on the tape measure before the scales. People who choose not to weigh and/or measure themselves every 3 to 4 days sometimes find it hard to remain motivated, but individuals are different.

It is vitally important to drink at least 2 litres of water per day. Don’t guess how much you have drunk; each morning set aside a 2 litre jug of water and make sure it is finished before you go to bed at night. Without enough water, you might become constipated, dehydrated and suffer headaches. If you don’t drink that much water now then gradually increase your water intake over a period of 3-4 days to reach the 8 glasses/2 litres per day.

If you are already drinking 2 litres or more per day, you will need to increase your daily water intake by between half- and 1-litre per day. If you are overweight, you need to increase your daily water intake by 250ml for every 10kg overweight.

When the body gets the water it needs to function optimally, its fluids are perfectly balanced. When this happens, you have reached the “breakthrough point”. What does this mean? Endocrine gland function improves. Fluid retention is alleviated, as stored water is lost. More fat is used because the liver is free to metabolize stored fat. Natural thirst returns. There is a loss of hunger almost overnight.

If you stop drinking the required amounts of water, your body fluids will be thrown out of balance again and you may experience fluid retention, unexplained weight gain and loss of thirst. To remedy this situation, you have to go back and force another breakthrough.

If feeling hungry is a problem then it generally means you are not getting enough protein. You can increase the amount of Formula #1 and/or protein powder in your shake. Only snack on high protein, low carbohydrate and healthy snacks. Your Wellness Coach can help you with suggestions, but you will come to know what works best for your body.

The best thing for hunger is foods that are full of protein and/or fibre, e.g. wholegrain breads, fruit/vegetables; low-fat dairy foods i.e. cheese slices and yoghurt, etc. There are also many great-tasting soy snacks and foods available. If you prefer, you can have an extra shake (or half a shake – 1 tablespoon) if you would rather eat perfect low calorie/low fat nutrition.

Water is also a great hunger-stopper.

The first 3 days to 1 week will be the hardest. Please ride it out. After this time, your appetite will decrease and it will be so much easier to stay on the programme. It’s really not as complicated as it might seem. Use the products correctly and get good results. Herbalife works for pretty much everyone – it is perfect nutrition and the basis for good health and weight management.
